I thought I’d catch up with blogging my trip to Greece and Germany. On the flight over from Ithaca to Cologne I had a 5 hour stop over in Amsterdam, this gave me ample time to nip into the city and do a bit of sightseeing.
For anyone who ever has a stopover in Amsterdam, the trains from the airport to the city centre go 6 times an hour and it takes about 15 to 20 mins for the journey.
So here’s some pics of my two hour site seeing tour of Amsterdam.
First thing of note is that they have some really modern clocks in Amsterdam, I’ve no idea how they tell the time when it goes dark, but maybe that is why the place comes alive at night 🙂

Or the odd coffee shop

and a quick visit to the red light district is essential for any daytripper.

Interestingly when you are visiting in the day time, most of the curtains seem to be shut, and the whores you do see tend to be the ones who need to work all day to make money. There was one girl sat cross legged sipping a cup of tea, very quaint. The area was pretty quiet in the day time, but from past experience once the sun goes down the area is swarming with Japanese business men!
So it was a nice little stop over and this time I managed not to get stopped by the police for cycling up a one way street in the wrong direction totally wasted, with my friend Allan cycling with his wheels stuck in a tram track 🙂
